The hilarious hit comedy “It Runs in the Family” by Ray Cooney was brought to the Honey Fitz Theatre stage by local Director Marella Mulcahy on February 21, 22nd and 23rd, 28th and March 1st. The action takes place in the Doctors common room of St Finbars Hospital, Cork. Dr David Mortimore (Anthony Kirby) is about to address a neurologists convention, which will probably earn him the post of Head Physician in St Finbars.
While putting the final touches to his speech an old flame, Jane Tate (Annie Casey) arrives with an extraordinary announcement. Frantic to hide this catastrophic news from his wife (Siobhan Kirby) and the hospital authorities, David is forced to invent not one but two non-existent husbands for Jane and enlist the help of his colleague and friend Dr Hubert Bonney (John O’ Grady).
Events are further complicated by the presence of a Garda Sergeant, (John Sheahan) an angry wife , an unbalanced teenage boy (Padraig Mulcahy), an irate boss (Paddy Leo), a wandering senile patient (Billy Leo), the matron (Aine Barry), a syringe full of tranquillizer and a bag full of costumes for the hospitals Christmas pantomime. The play also stars local actors Seamus Murnane, Deborah Hogan and Aoife Lynch.
It is a term often overused but this play IS NOT TO BE MISSED!
