The partnership approach between Limerick City and County Council and local communities has been recognised with five nominations in the 2017 Community and Council Awards. Now in its 11th year, the awards recognise and celebrate local authorities who are working with community groups across the country.  Lough Gur has entered the shortlist under two categories.

Paul Ryan of the Lough Gur Development Co-Operative Society has been nominated for Community Volunteer of the Year for all his hard work and dedication while the Lough Gur Heritage Centre is listed as a finalist under the Best Heritage Category for the outstanding restoration and refurbishment of the visitor centre.
