Return to the Dark Sky Project

Observing Satellites

It takes patience, warm clothes, time and of course an area with Dark Skies to observe satellite movement across the sky. As the sun sets and rises, it’s angle over the horizon will make satellites clint, shimmer and glow bright. One of the more distinct satellites in our sky is the international space station, it can be observed for both fleeting moments and tens of seconds at a time. You can track the space station using online tools available through the NASA website, or indeed using the plugin we have running to the right here.
