Join speakers Michael Quinlan, Dr. Frank Prendergast, Paul Clements, Dr. Billy Mag Fhloinn, Robert Ryan and Fr. Sean Fennelly to celebrate the Spirit of Place in Lough Gur.
Spirit of place (or soul of place) refers to the unique, distinctive and cherished aspects of a place; often those celebrated by artists and writers, but also those cherished in folktales, festivals and celebrations. It is as much in the invisible weave of culture (stories, art, memories, beliefs & histories) as it is the tangible physical aspects of a place (monuments, boundaries and so on) or its interpersonal aspects (the presence of relatives and kindred spirits). The Lough Gur Spirit of Place event will uncover and discover the unique and distinctive aspects of this particular area

Ticket price: €60 for weekend event including public seminar on Friday 10th of October followed on Saturday October 11th by a morning seminar, lunch, tea & coffee along with a contemplative tour of Lough Gur. The ticket price includes music later that evening in the Honey Fitz Theatre, Lough Gur by Líadan and Nóirín Ní Riain.

STORYTELLING FESTIVAL – OCTOBER 24TH TO 26TH 2014
The Lough Gur Storytelling Festival will take place from October 24th to October 26th. The programme is as follows:
Primary schools storytelling competition: Friday 24th in the Honey Fitz Theatre at 6.30pm.
Saturday 25th October: Conor Lambert Custard Pie Puppet Show & Fancy Dress Competition. Shows at 1pm and 3pm. Price €5 per person.
8pm: Performance by the Lough Gur Amateur Dramatic Society later that evening with a repeat performance on Sunday 26th. Admission €5
Sunday 26th: The story of Owls for children will be showcased at the Heritage Centre at 130pm and 3pm. Book a place for your child to meet and greet 6 real owls where they will hear about their mystical and magical creatures that hold a very important place in the folklore of Ireland. Admission €5.
8pm: Performance by the Lough Gur Amateur Dramatic Society. Admission €10.
Mystery Bus Tour: There will be a mystery bus tour for history and folklore enthusiasts Sunday 26th. The coach will depart from the Honey Fitz Theatre at 10.30am. Where you will go…who knows! €30.00

Summer Solstice Festival 2014
The Summer Soltice festival takes place from Thursday 19th to Monday 23rd of June 2014. There is entertainment for all ages. Please check back for a full line up of the event during May.
Storytelling Festival 2014
The storytelling festival takes place 25th – 28th October. A weekend celebration of the art of storytelling with traditional music, drama and poetry. Events for adults and children. Each year the organisers manage to bring a quality programme and performers with a difference and promises a feast of entertainment with storytelling, traditional music, song, dance and drama.
Lough Gur is an ideal setting for this type of festival, as the area is steeped in legend and folklore. The superb facilities of the Honey Fitz theatre, with comfortable, tiered seating and the prehistoric atmosphere of the Interpretive Centre at Lakefront are ideal venues for all – both young and old – to participate and enjoy the events.
