The lakefront tour typically takes 30 minutes and allow a further 30 minutes for the exhibition. Includes Audio guide, trail map, Enjoy Lough Gur lakefront taking in information on Bouchiers Castle, Bolin island (Cranóg), Hangmans rock and entrance to the Heritage Centre.
The Lough Gur experience begins outdoors at Ireland’s largest and oldest stone circle; aligned to the winter and summer solstice. Here visitors can walk unobstructed in the footsteps of Ireland’s first inhabitants within this ancient, ritual and sacred site. Further highlights of this visit include the megalithic wedge tomb, New Church, Carraig Aille stone forts, lake front walk, early Christian field settlement and the Lough Gur viewing point. At these stops you will see where the earliest settlers once worshiped and lived. Your guide will bring to life the people who once lived on the rich land of Lough Gur. From peasant farmers, Earls, Vikings, Chieftains, mythological creatures & even the Goddess Aine – they all at one point in time to call Lough Gur their home.
