Lough Gur Visitor Centre:
Lough Gur Visitor Centre, located by the lakefront in Lough Gur provides an overview of one of Ireland’s most important archaeological sites. It is the only area in the country where you can see visible evidence of every age since Neolithic times.
The Centre will provide visitors with information on the surrounding sites and attractions in the local area.
Opening times:
June to Augusts 2021 Opening Times
Monday to Thursday: 10am to 6pm
Friday to Sunday: 10am to 8pm
From October 26th 2021:
Monday to Sunday 10am to 4pm
Including bank holidays.
Christmas Eve 2021: 9am to 3pm

Admission fee:
Tickets to the exhibition are priced as follows:
Child €3,adult €5, family €15, senior or student €4.
There is no fee to walk the grounds outside of Lough Gur Visitor Centre. They are open all year round.
Car parking:
There is free car parking available by the lake front. There is also a coach car park that can be used by private cars in the off season. Please note that the grounds outside of the Heritage Centre are under the care of Limerick City and County Council.
Wheelchair access:
Lough Gur Visitor Centre is fully wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp leading up to the building and a wheelchair lift in the building that leads from the reception area to the exhibition. A wheelchair exit is located to the rear of the premises. A wheelchair accessible bathroom is also available.
Travelling with children:
Lough Gur welcomes people of all ages. The grounds do have certain areas that can accommodate prams however please note that certain sections of the walking trails do have steeps steps and are not suitable for buggies. Changing facilities are available in the Heritage Centre.
The public bathrooms by the car park are maintained and operated by Limerick City and County Council. For any queries relating to these facilities please contact the council direct.
Fishing and water sports:
Fishing is not permitted on the lake. The use of motorised boats is also not permissible. Kayaking is on offer through the Kilfinane Outdoor Education centre. Booking at least one week in advance is advised.
What to wear:
It is advisable to wear sensible footwear and warm waterproof clothing if you intend on walking the grounds.
Places to stay:
Visitors to the area could choose to stay in the Old Bank Bruff, Deebert House Hotel Kilmallock or the Charleville Park Hotel. The Mustard Seed in Ballingarry is also an excellent choice for people in search of luxury and understated decadence. A local AirB&B option is available at the country estate of Kilballyowen House located just 7km from the Great Grange Stone Circle.
Places to eat:
Coffee, soft drinks and snacks are on sale in the Heritage Centre. For lunch and dinner menu options, Reardon’s Bar in Holycross (2km’s from the Heritage Centre) offer a tasty menu.

Lough Gur is located in the Ballyhoura region. There is a full list of activities and events listed on the Ballhoura Country website. The staff on duty in the Lough Gur Heritage Centre are also available to assist with directions and information.
