Lough Gur Lakeshore Park is committed to actions and approaches that promote
biodiversity and sustainability. We believe that protecting the environment and
promoting sustainability compliments our objectives. The Lough Gur Lakeshore Park
Management plan aims to adopt best practice park management approaches to
protect all life that lives here, leading to continued enjoyment of outdoor areas.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
General Amenity Area Management
Plant Selection: Native Irish plants
Pruning/Removal: Remove from site to approved areas to prevent any possible spread of invasive species.
Bark Mulch: Use of mulch in selected areas in place of stone.
Bed Maintenance: Remove scrub and replant areas to support biodiversity.
Fertilisation: Natural fertiliser only.
Water Management: Rainwater harvesting plans to support sustainable approaches.
Herbicides: No herbicides used.
Fungicides: No fungicides used.
Insecticides: No insecticides used.
Soil & Water Testing: Test soil quarterly to monitor quality.
Seeding/Sod: Avoid sod/seeding where possible.
Mowing/Trimming: Mow and trim only where necessary to allow growth in line with All Ireland Pollinator Plan.
